Privacy policy

This policy explains how personal data is handled when you use savinglivesacademy.com (the “Website”), book or buy our courses, or contact us. It is written to meet the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

1. Who we are

The data controller is Saving Lives Academy Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14707772). Registered office: 16 Hamble Road, Poole, BH15 3NL. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), registration reference ZB702906.

2. What personal data we collect

• Identity and contact data: name, email address, phone or WhatsApp number, country.
• Professional data: job title, specialty, place of work, and professional registration details where you give them to us for a course.
• Account data: username, password (stored securely), course progress and access records.
• Order and payment data: what you bought, order amount and date, billing address. Card payments are handled by our payment provider, Stripe, and we do not store your full card details.
• Enquiries: what you send us through our forms, email or WhatsApp.
• Marketing preferences: which course updates you want to receive and whether you open or click our emails.
• Technical data: IP address, browser type, device, pages visited and cookie data. See section 9.
• Course session data: attendance and participation in live online sessions. We tell you in advance if a session is recorded.

We do not knowingly collect data about anyone under 18, and our courses are for adults.

3. How and why we use your data

We must have a lawful basis for each use. Ours are:

• To provide the course or service you booked (create your account, take payment, give access, send joining details, issue certificates). Basis: contract.
• To answer your enquiries. Basis: legitimate interests, or steps taken at your request before a contract.
• To send you emails about courses you have asked about. Basis: your consent, or, for existing customers, the “soft opt-in” under PECR for similar products. You can opt out in every email.
• To keep accounts, payments and the Website secure, and to prevent fraud. Basis: legitimate interests.
• To keep financial and tax records. Basis: legal obligation.
• To improve the Website and our courses using analytics and feedback. Basis: legitimate interests, or consent where cookies require it.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not make decisions about you using automated processing that has legal or similarly significant effects.

4. Who we share your data with

We share data only where needed, with:

• Our website host and technology providers, including WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Fluent Forms (enquiry and sign-up forms), Kit (email list and course updates) and Tutor LMS (online course access).
• Stripe, which processes card and wallet payments.
• Zoom, or a similar provider, for live online sessions.
• Our accountants, professional advisers and insurers.
• Course faculty, only the information they need to run a session.
• Authorities or regulators where the law requires it.

These providers act on our instructions under a contract, or are independent controllers with their own privacy notices.

5. Transfers outside the UK

Some of our providers, including Stripe, Kit and Zoom, are based outside the UK (for example in the USA). Where that happens, we make sure a lawful transfer mechanism is in place, such as a UK adequacy decision (including the UK–US data bridge where the provider is certified), the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. 6. How long we keep your data

• Order and financial records: 6 years after the end of the financial year, to meet UK tax and company law.
• Account and course records, including certificates: 6 years after your last course or account activity, so we can verify your certificates.
• Enquiries that do not lead to a booking: 12 months.
• Recordings of live sessions: up to 12 months, unless we tell you otherwise when you are told about the recording.
• Marketing list: until you unsubscribe or we stop using the list. We keep a minimal record so we can honour your opt-out.

When the period ends, we delete or anonymise the data.

7. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including secure connections, access controls and trusted providers. No online system is completely secure. If a breach is likely to put your rights at risk, we will tell you and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) as the law requires.

8. Your rights

Under UK law you have the right to:

• be told how your data is used (this policy);
• access the personal data we hold about you;
• have inaccurate data corrected;
• have data erased, in some situations;
• restrict or object to our use of your data, including objecting to marketing at any time;
• receive your data in a portable format, where we use it based on consent or contract;
• withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier use.

To use any right, email [email protected]. We will reply within one month, and we may need to confirm your identity first. There is normally no charge.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, telephone 0303 123 1113.

9. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies that are strictly necessary to run the Website, such as those for your basket and login. We use other cookies, for example analytics, only if you agree through our cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time using the cookie settings on the Website or in your browser. Our embedded maps and videos may set their own cookies once you interact with them.

The Website may link to other sites, including embedded maps and videos. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version is always on this page, with the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell you directly.
