Troy Whitacre
Troy Whitacre, RRT, RRT-ACCS, FAARC, is a highly experienced Respiratory Therapist with a distinguished 43-year career in adult critical care. For the past 34 years, he has served at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, USA, where he currently holds the role of Clinical Coordinator for the 36-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit. In this leadership position, he provides clinical guidance, oversees advanced respiratory care practices, and supports research and innovation within the ICU environment.
Troy is a member of the Board of Directors for INSPIRE, a respected online education platform that delivers monthly expert panel discussions on key issues in adult critical care. His national influence extends through his long-standing involvement with the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC), where he has been an active contributor within the Acute Care Section for many years. He has delivered numerous live and virtual lectures on topics such as ventilator liberation, patient–ventilator asynchrony, NAVA, and PEEP titration strategies.
He is currently contributing to the update of the AARC Clinical Practice Guidelines on End-Tidal CO₂ Monitoring and has co-authored multiple book chapters on adult critical care topics. His technical expertise includes extensive hands-on experience with esophageal balloon monitoring, NAVA catheters, and electrical impedance tomography (EIT). Troy is also deeply involved in the evaluation of emerging technologies and supports ongoing research at the University of Missouri, helping integrate new concepts and tools into critical care practice.
