Ariel J. Garnero, RRT, is an accomplished Respiratory Therapist, educator, and international speaker with more than two decades of experience in adult, pediatric, and neonatal critical care across the United States and Latin America. Currently serving as a Full-Time Respiratory Therapist at the Cleveland Clinic Respiratory Institute, Ariel brings a strong foundation in clinical excellence, research, and advanced mechanical ventilation.

Ariel completed his Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy at the National University of Córdoba, Argentina, followed by professional respiratory therapy training at Los Angeles Valley College, where he earned both a Certificate of Achievement and an Associate of Science Degree. He holds multiple Respiratory Care Practitioner licenses across several U.S. states and achieved his Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential in 1999. His dedication to professional growth has also been recognized internationally, including selection as a 1996 AARC International Fellow.

A respected author and contributor in the field of mechanical ventilation, Ariel has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, including contributions to Egan’s Fundamentals of Respiratory Care (13th Edition), the Handbook of Paediatric & Neonatal Mechanical Ventilation (ESPNIC), and several Spanish-language textbooks widely used in critical care education. His research on ventilatory modes, taxonomy, and apnea time adjustments has been featured in Respiratory Care Journal and presented at prestigious scientific forums, including the AARC International Congress Open Forum (Editor’s Choice).

Ariel is a sought-after lecturer, frequently invited to speak at international conferences across North and South America, including Bolivia, West Virginia, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, and Argentina. His teaching focuses on ventilatory mode taxonomy, mechanical ventilation principles, patient–ventilator interaction, and waveform interpretation.

Throughout his career, Ariel has held clinical and academic roles in major institutions including the University of Missouri Health Care, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, Salem Hospital (OR), and earlier roles across California’s leading hospitals through Respiratory Therapy staffing agencies. His international background also includes residencies in Pediatrics, Neonatology, and Adult Critical Care in Córdoba, Argentina, along with experience as a Respiratory Physiology Teaching Assistant.

Fluent in Spanish and conversational in Italian and Portuguese, Ariel is known for his adaptability, strong grounding in physiology and mechanics, and commitment to teaching and clinical development. He continues to contribute to the advancement of mechanical ventilation knowledge through research, publications, and global education.
