Daniel De Backer (born on December 28, 1961 in Brussels) is specialized in intensive care medicine and obtained his PhD thesis at the Université Libre de Bruxelles.
Daniel. De Backer is Head of Intensive Care departments CHIREC Hospitals (Brussels and Braine l’Alleud-Waterloo) and Professor of Intensive Care at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Brussels). His main fields of investigations are sepsis, organ dysfunction and support, circulatory failure, hemodynamic monitoring (including echocardiography), hepato-splanchnic circulation and microcirculatory disorders.
Daniel De Backer has signed more than 300 original articles, serves as reviewer for 30 journals, and is Associate Editor of several journals including “Critical Care” and “Annals of Intensive Care”.
Daniel De Backer is Past-President of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (2014-2016).
